Oakland International Airport is located in the city of Oakland, California. The airport was originally known as Oakland Municipal Airport and opened on November 27, 1939. The airport served as a military airbase during World War II and became an commercial airport in 1946. In 1998, the airport was renamed after the city of Oakland. The airport has three terminals: the original terminal built in 1939, the newly built Terminal 3 which opened in 2006, and Terminal 5 which opened in 2017.
